SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: LITERACY DEVELOPMENT- TEACHER AND LIBRARIAN LED STORY-HOURS FOCUSING ON EARLY LITERACY DEVELOPMENT, BOOK DISCUSSIONS, PARENT AND CHILD WORKSHOPS, AFTER SCHOOL HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE, QUARTERLY BOOK DISTRIBUTIONS, SUMMER READING PROGRAMS AND MEET THE AUTHOR EVENTS.CITIZEN AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT – AFTER-SCHOOL HOMEWORK HELP WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, GIRL/BOY SCOUT LITERACY ACTIVITIES, COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES, COMMUNITY EVENTS INCLUDING LOCAL FIRE AND POLICE PARTICIPATION. HEALTH AND CHILD WELFARE EDUCATION – PARENTING WORKSHOPS, NUTRITION WORKSHOPS, ORGANIZED PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, DOMESTIC AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE ADVOCACY AND INTERNET SAFETY.COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT- ADULT USE OF IN-HOUSE COMPUTERS AND STAFF TO ASSIST IN RESUME WRITING, JOB APPLICATION PROCESSING, AND JOB SEARCHING. USE OF OUR FACILITY OFFERS THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE TRYING TO GAIN EMPLOYMENT AN OPPORTUNITY TO PRESENT THEMSELVES IN A MORE PROFESSIONAL MANNER TO POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS. YOUNG ADULTS ARE MORE EMPLOYABLE WITH STRONG READING AND WRITING SKILLS. THESE ARE SKILLS WE FOCUS ON THROUGH ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS. ALL OF OUR STAFF & VOLUNTEERS ARE DRAWN FROM THE LOCAL COMMUNITY THUS ENCOURAGING A COMMUNITY TIE.LITERACY MATERIAL LENDING - BOOKS RANGE FROM INFANT BOARD BOOKS, CHILDREN’S PICTURE BOOKS, BEGINNING READERS, EARLY CHAPTER BOOKS, ADOLESCENT LITERATURE, YOUNG ADULT LITERATURE, CLASSIC LITERATURE, PARENT RESOURCE MATERIALS, BEST SELLERS, LITERACY ACTIVITY BAGS, ESL LITERATURE, AND FOREIGN LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT KITS.
