AS THE MOTHER ORGANIZATION AND VEHICLE THROUGH WHICH THE UNDER-SERVED POPULATION OF NICARAGUA AND THE UNITED STATES CAN BE SERVED. TO BE ABLE TO OFFER MEDICAL RESIDENTS OF RHODE ISLAND HOSPITAL THROUGH BROWN UNIVERSITY'S EMERGENCY MEDICINE PROGRAM THE OPPORTUNITY FOR FULL IMMERSION IN A POVERTY-STRICKEN, SPANISH-SPEAKING COUNTRY IN WHICH THEIR SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE CAN BE APPLIED AND BROADENED IN A PRACTICE-BASED, FOREIGN AND RESOURCE-LIMITED ENVIRONMENT IN NICARAGUA. ALSO, MEDICAL STUDENTS WILL BE ENROLLED IN A SPANISH-LEARNING SCHOOL TO BE ABLE TO DEVELOP OR IMPROVE THEIR SPANISH MEDICAL SKILLS. US MEDICAL RESIDENTS WILL BE OFFERED HOUSING THROUGH HOST-FAMILIES OR SPANISH-SCHOOL HOUSING, AND WILL BE IN ROTATION AT EITHER OR BOTH LENIN FONSECA AND ROBERTO CALDERON TEACHING HOSPITALS OF NICARAGUA WITH ROUTINE EVALUATIONS. US MEDICAL RESIDENTS ARE OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE WORKING-RELATIONSHIPS AND RESIDENCY-LIKE STUDY AT THESE HOSPITALS IN THE COMPANY OF NICARAGUAN DOCTORS AND THEIR NICARAGUAN PEERS. IN TURN, NICARAGUAN MEDICAL RESIDENTS AND DOCTORS WILL BE EXPOSED TO AMERICAN MEDICAL TECHNIQUES, TEACHING PRACTICES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE, TO HELP BETTER SERVE THE POPULATION OF NICARAGUA AND HOPEFULLY, IN THE FUTURE, CAN BE OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO COME TO THE UNITED STATES AND COMPLETE A STUDY-ABROAD TYPE OF RESIDENCY. ALL IN ALL, THE ORGANIZATION IS DEVELOPED IN HOPES TO MAKE THE WORLD A HEALTHIER PLACE AND TO ALWAYS CATER TO THE UNDER-SERVED. |
